School of Resources & Safety Engineering


  The School of Resources and Safety Engineering which is also named the School of Safety Science and Technology was founded in 1998. It consists of Mining Engineering Department, Safety Engineering Department, Top-coal Caving Technology Center, Safety Testing Center and some research centers dealing with featured research subjects. In this School, there are bachelor programs in Mining Engineering, Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Fire Engineering, among which Mining Engineering and Safety Engineering have been rated as national key disciplines and state-level characteristic specialties. There are also 6 master’s programs, 6 PhD programs, 2 post-doctoral research stations, 2 specially appointed professor positions by the name of “Cheung Kong Scholar Program” and 2 Engineering Master Programs.

  The School has established 1 national experimental and teaching demonstration center, 1 national engineering practice education center, and 1 Excellent Teaching Team in Beijing. In this School, 1 course has been evaluated as Beijing high-quality course, and 1 textbook has been named Beijing top-quality teaching materials for higher education. The specialty of Safety Engineering of this School has passed the Accreditation for Engineering Education by Ministry of Education.

  The School has altogether 1398 students, including 610 full-time undergraduates among whom 19 are international students, 574 graduate students and 214 PhD candidates. At present, there are 63 full-time faculty and staff members, among whom 2 are members of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), 16 are professors and PhD supervisors, 11are associate professors, and 5 are part time PhD supervisors. The School boasts a number of teachers entitled as National Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Expert, winners of China Youth Science and Technology Award, winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, teachers entitled as National-level Excellent Teacher and Outstanding Teacher in Beijing, as well as 5 State Council Expert for Special Allowance,6 teachers included in the Ministry of Education’s Excellent Talents Support Program for the new century, 8 Sun Yueqi Youth Science & Technology Award and Youth Science & Technology Award in Chinese Coal Industry, and 1 Sun Yueqi Post-doctor Award.

  In recent years, more than 20 academic monographs have been published in this School together with over 800 research papers and 12 course books. The research results of this School have won 2 National Science and Technology Progress Awards, more than 50 provincial or ministerial level Science and Technology Progress Awards, and 20 National Invention Patents. At present, the School is now undertaking more than 140 research projects, including over 50 national-level projects such as National Science and Technology Support Programs, “863” Project, “973” Project, and the National Natural Science Foundation programs.
