The rapid development of Chinese economy appeals for elites in economics and management science. The School of Management was established in 1953, and started to recruit undergraduates in 1954 and then graduate students who were supervised by Soviet experts in 1955. In 1959 Chinese professors began to recruit graduate students. The year of 1979 witnessed the establishment of the Committee of Economics and Management Programs under the Graduate School of China Institute of Mining and Technology-Beijing as well as the recruitment of the first session of master students in Management Science and Engineering. It is in 1986 that the School was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to confer Doctor’s degree in Management Science and Engineering for the first time. As China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing was established in 1997, the Department of Economics and Management was set up. In 1998, the School was authorized to set up post-doctoral research station in Management Science and Engineering, and was approved to recruit Master of Business Administration (MBA) in the same year. After the university readjusted the schools in 2002, the School of Management has been officially set up. In 2009, the School was qualified for recruiting Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA).

The School now consists of Department of Business Administration, Department of Marketing and Department of Accounting, as well as MBA Education Center, EMBA Center, Energy Economy Research Center and so on. At present, it has a post-doctoral research station, 4 doctoral programs, 10 academic master programs, 7 full-time specialized master programs, 4 on-the-job specialized master programs and 4 undergraduate programs. And it has more than 1200 students of different types and 50 faculty and staff members, including 10 professors (9 Ph. D. supervisors), 18 associate professors and 12 lecturers. Among them, one is included in the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program, one is rated as outstanding teachers in Beijing, and two won the honorary title of Teaching Ethic Model in Beijing.

In recent years, the School of Management has yielded fruitful scientific research accomplishments in such fields as energy industry policies and development strategies, enterprise management and its information technology. In addition, it has completed more than 100 projects of national, provincial and ministerial levels and other types of projects, more than 30 of which have won national, provincial and ministerial level awards. The School has published over 40 academic monographs and textbooks together with more than 500 papers.

All faculty and staff members in the School have been working together to develop the School with a sound discipline system and first-class faculty of advanced teaching and research level and important influences on the mining energy field. It strives to be an essential part of elite education pattern for energy industry as the target of the university.
