Safety Science and Engineering is a national key discipline, a key discipline of the national "211 Project" and the "985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform". It was selected as a national "Double First-Class" construction discipline in 2017 and 2021, and was rated A+ in all previous discipline evaluations of the Ministry of Education. The safety engineering major was the first to pass the national engineering education professional certification and was selected as a national first-class major. The fire protection engineering major was selected as a first-class major in Beijing.

The school of Emergency Management and Safety Engineering has built a complete teaching and research platform. It has 4 research institutes, respectively in the areas of emergency and safety management, fire protection engineering, industrial safety and occupational hazards, and urban public safety. It is an important part of the National Safety Science and Engineering Research Institute of the Ministry of Emergency Management. The school is a participating and supporting unit of the National Key Laboratory of Coal Fine Exploration and Intelligent Development, and participates in the construction of the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Coal Safe Mining and Geological Guarantee. The school has the Beijing Key Laboratory for Precision Mining of Co-existing Energy, the State Mine Administration Emergency Rescue Efficiency and Protection Research Institute, the Ministry of Emergency Management Key Laboratory for Coal Mine Disaster Prevention and Disposal, and the Ministry of Emergency Management Key Laboratory for Urban Road and Underground Space Safety Testing and Evaluation.

The school has formed a team of teachers with a reasonable structure, excellent quality, and a combination of full-time and part-time teachers. There are 53 faculty members, including 23 professors and 17 associate professors, among whom there are 1 Yangtze River Scholar, 1 Ten Thousand Young People Talent Program participant, 1 winner of Beijing Teaching Masters Award, and 5 discipline leaders in the field of emergency management in Beijing.
