To implement new development concepts, actively promote China-Europe cooperation in the circular economy, and foster technological innovation and international talent exchange in the low-carbon sector, the “Sino-European Symposium Circular Economy” was held in Beijing from May 22 to 23. Co-hosted by China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing and Clausthal University of Technology in Germany, this forum was organized by CUMTB School of Energy and Mining Engineering and attended by over 150 participants both online and offline. President Liu Bo attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
In his address, President Liu Bo reviewed the collaborative history between our university and TU Clausthal, acknowledging the achievements made in research cooperation and joint talent development. He appreciated the joint efforts of both universities in promoting efficient resource utilization and sustainable environmental development. He pointed out that the world is currently facing severe challenges such as resource scarcity, environmental pollution, and climate change, so developing the circular economy has significant strategic importance. Based on the vast potential for cooperation between China and Europe in the field of the circular economy, he hoped that this forum would serve as a high-level platform for further consolidating cooperation consensus. He expressed the university's commitment to continue strengthening innovative research in green resource development and low-carbon circular utilization, facilitating the implementation of more substantive cooperation projects, and contributing Chinese-European solutions to global circular economic development.
The symposium lasted for 2 days and consisted of three keynote speeches as well as a round-table discussion session. Delving into topics such as circular economy solutions, this forum facilitated in-depth discussions, with experts actively providing insights to deepen China-Europe cooperation in the circular economy. Yang Shengli, Dean of School of Energy and Mining Engineering, along with faculty members from the School, jointly chaired the meeting.
Participants included experts and scholars from TU Clausthal in Germany, University of Bristol in UK, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute, as well as faculty members from CUMTB School of Energy and Mining Engineering and relevant department heads.
