On the afternoon of October 30th, the second session of the collective skills training course for United Nations agency presentation and consultation activities, UN Job Fair, organized jointly by the Graduate School and the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, was successfully held at Yifu Building 717 on the Xueyuan Campus and Teaching Building 2-502 on the Shahe Campus. UN Job Fair, hosted by the China Scholarship Council, serves as a platform for communication and exchange between Chinese youth and international organizations, aiming to enhance the competence of Chinese youth in international organizations and support the development of international organization talents in various universities.
Due to the impact of the pandemic, this event could not be held on-site and instead adopted a format of "pre-recording, scheduled release, and authorized viewing". The collective skills training session invited six senior human resources officials from international organizations to conduct two training sessions for Chinese students on writing skills and interview techniques. The event was organized and pre-recorded by Tsinghua University.
The human resources officials emphasized that writing ability forms the foundation for applying to international organizations. A well-crafted application can effectively summarize personal capabilities, demonstrate enthusiasm for the job, and convey how well-suited one is for the position applied. The writing course approached the topic from the perspective of international organization recruitment, explaining key points and details in the process of filling out online applications, drafting resumes, and cover letters. It provided advice on content and techniques for writing applications, helping students to prepare more effectively for internships and positions at international organizations.
Additionally, interviews are a crucial part of the assessment process for international organization job applications, providing an opportunity for both recruiters and applicants to understand each other better. Human resources officials detailed various forms and contents of interviews based on the work and hiring standards of international organizations. They highlighted the abilities valued during the United Nations recruitment process and provided guidance on how to prepare for interviews and effectively demonstrate personal skills, as well as how to ask questions skillfully to interviewers. The course also included live mock interviews to offer more vivid reference scenarios.
