Recently,72nd International Trade Fair for Ideas, Inventionsand New Products –iENA’21took place at the Nuremberg International Exhibition Center in Germany. The project "Autonomous Operation Mobile Platform Based on Multi-Modal Perception," collaboratively completed by Professor Zhang Guoying's team from the School of Mechanical, Electrical, and Information Engineering at China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing) and Academician Li Jun's team from the School of Vehicles at Tsinghua University, won the gold award at the exhibition for its originality and significant application effects.

The iENA was launched in 1948. Its key partners include the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA), the German Patent and Trade Mark Office, the German Inventors’ Association (DEV), and otherorganizations. It is the world's oldest and most influential international invention exhibition. Over 30,000 inventions and creations have been showcased to the public through the exhibition to date. Renowned for its impartial judging, large scale, and highest authority and reputation in the international exhibition community, the awards of iENA are widely recognized by governments worldwide.

The "Autonomous Operation Mobile Platform Based on Multi-Modal Perception" efficiently replaces operators in mining, mineral processing, and other processes to carry out inspections, sorting, and various tasks. Intelligent methods, including the active fusion of multiple sensors for perception and comprehensive decision-making, are employed to achieve environmental perception analysis, autonomous navigation with obstacle avoidance, as well as foreign object recognition and sorting. This platform can overcome harsh conditions prevalent in mining production, such as high dust, permeability, and rugged terrain. It can stably execute intelligent operations and significantly contribute to the development of unmanned inspection and sorting work in high-risk environments.

Moreover, in October of this year, Professor Zhang Guoying's team's intelligent driving fleet achieved excellent results in the 2021 CIVC in Shenyang and won the silver medal in the Real Car Forward Application Challenge.
