Delegation from the National Directorate of Mining and Geology, Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining of Uruguay Visits Our University

On the afternoon of October 30th, Marcelo Pogressi Sebastiani, National Director of Mining and Geology from Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining of Uruguay, along with the bureau's technical advisor, Viviana Gianotti Garcia, First Secretary of the Uruguayan Embassy in China Ignacio Guido, and embassy secretary Jiang Huanwen, visited our university. Academician Ge Shirong, CUMTB President, met with the delegation, and Vice President Zhao Fenghua accompanied the meeting. Representatives from International Cooperation and Exchange Office and State Key Laboratory for Fine Exploration and Intelligent Development of Coal Resources also participated in the discussions.
Ge Shirong extended a warm welcome to the delegation and emphasized that Uruguay, as one of the earliest Latin American countries to join the Belt and Road Initiative, holds significant importance as a key partner for China. Recognized as a champion of clean energy, Uruguay ranks as the world's second-largest country in electricity generation from renewable sources. Our university has been dedicated to advancing the clean and efficient utilization of energy, and there are extensive opportunities for collaboration in technical development and applications within related fields between the two parties.
Marcelo Pugliesi Sebastiani expressed that Uruguay attaches great importance to cooperation with China in the mining sector. He was deeply impressed by the 2023 China Mining Conference and Exhibition in Tianjin and hopes that through this visit, both sides can enhance exchanges and cooperation in cutting-edge mining technologies and joint training of mining engineering talents, injecting new vitality into the development of Uruguay's mining industry.
Afterward, the delegation toured the State Key Laboratory for Fine Exploration and Intelligent Development of Coal Resources. Professor Xu Xianlei, the deputy director of the laboratory, along with representatives of outstanding postgraduate students, briefed the delegation on the laboratory's main research directions, scientific achievements, and future development plans. The delegation expressed high praise for the advanced equipment and research accomplishments of the laboratory.
