From December 2 to 3, the 48th ICPC Asia Jinan Regional Contest was held at Qilu University of Technology. The event attracted 347 teams with over 1,000 participants from 225 universities across China, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Shandong University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Wuhan University, Beihang University, and the University of Science and Technology of China. The "Beikuang Team 7" from our university (members: Luo Xinwei and Gao Chenying, Computer Science Class of 2021; and Guo Tianzhuo, Remote Sensing Class of 2022, under the guidance of instructors Zhou Faguo and Gao Wenchao) solved six problems in five hours of intense competition, achieved an impressive team rank of 87 and a school rank of 60, earning a valuable silver medal.
ACM-ICPC (Association for Computing Machinery-International Collegiate Programming Contest) ranks the fourth among national university discipline competitions in China. It aims to show college students' innovation abilities, teamwork spirits, and their skills in analyzing and solving problems under pressure. It has evolved into the most influential collegiate computer competition, often referred to as the "Olympics of Programming Competitions". The contest problems are described in English, and participants must complete 10-13 tasks within five hours, involving reading the problems, designing algorithms, coding, debugging, and submitting the solutions for actual execution. This process, evaluated by machines, comprehensively tests the students' abilities in algorithm design, logical reasoning, mathematical modeling, programming, and English reading.
