From December 1st to 4th, Professor Wang Jiachen from CUMTB led a delegation to visit Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University in Turkey. During the visit, they held a bilateral seminar on thick coal seam mining technology together with staff from Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University and discussed the establishment of the "China-Turkey Thick Coal Seam Mining Research Center."
Professor Wang Jiachen and his delegation met with Professor İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, the President of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University. Prof. Özölçer warmly welcomed Prof. Wang Jiachen and his delegation and signed the agreement to establish the "China-Turkey Thick Coal Seam Mining Research Center" between the two universities. He expressed hope that both parties, within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two universities, would engage in in-depth exchanges and cooperation in scientific research and talent cultivation in the field of green intelligent mining of thick coal seams. This cooperation aims to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two universities.
On the afternoon of December 2nd, the Sino-Turkey bilateral seminar on thick coal seam mining technology was held at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University. Professor İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, President of the university, Professor Servet Karasu, Vice President, and Hamit Aydın, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, along with Muharrem Kiraz, General Manager of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises (Turkish: Türkiye Taşkömürü Kurumu, TTK) , and representatives from local coal enterprises and scholars attended the meeting. During the seminar, Professor Ahmet Özarslan from Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University and Professor Wang Jiachen from our university delivered presentations on "Underground Coal Mining in Türkiye" and "Progress in Thick Coal Seam Mining Technology in China" respectively. Professor Wang Jiachen's excellent presentation drew widespread attention and lively discussions among the experts and scholars present. Both sides had in-depth discussions on the technical challenges and latest developments in the field of thick coal seam mining in China and Turkey, and expressed their expectations for future technical cooperation and tackling key problems based on the "China-Turkey Thick Coal Seam Mining Research Center."
On December 3rd, Professor Wang Jiachen and his delegation visited the Amasra Coal Mine of the Turkish Hattat Holding in Zonguldak, Turkey for on-site research. They held discussions with Eren Soyer, the Chief Engineer of the mine, and other technical personnel on topics including the geological conditions of the mine, coal seam occurrence, mining methods and equipment, rock control techniques, and safe and efficient mining. Following the discussions, Professor Wang Jiachen and his delegation conducted a field visit to the underground of the Amasra Coal Mine.
The "China-Turkey Thick Coal Seam Mining Research Center" is located in CUMTB's School of Energy and Mining Engineering. Professor Wang Jiachen from our university and Professor Servet Karasu from Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University serve as co-directors of the research center. Professor Li Yang, Department Head of Resource Science and Engineering, Associate Professor Zhang Jinwang, Deputy Department Head of Intelligent Mining Engineering, and Associate Professor Deng Xuejie, Deputy Department Head of Resource Engineering, from School of Energy and Mining Engineering, participated in this visit and on-site research.
