In 2023, the National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition saw a record-breaking participation with over 16835 institutions/campuses and 59611 teams from across China, the United States, Australia and Malaysia. Our university only participated in the undergraduate group, with a total of 54158 teams, comprising nearly 180,000 CUMTB students, setting a new record for the number of participants in the competition's history. Led by faculty members from the School of Science, 40 CUMTB teams successfully registered for the competition. Wang Jiaxi, Dai Weiqi, and Deng Runzhe from the School of Science received the national first prize in the undergraduate group. Due to the increasing number of participating teams each year with a fixed number of awarded teams, the award-winning rate decreases annually. This year, the national first prize-winning rate was approximately 0.55%. Zhang Xu and Lei Jun from the School of Science, along with Zhu Yu from the School of Artificial Intelligence, received the national second prize, with an award-winning rate of approximately 2.2%.

For each of the three contest questions, the competition organizing committee awarded 100 teams for the first prize and 300 teams for the second prize. Our university achieved a total of 2 national-level awards, 5 first prizes in Beijing, and 12 second prizes in Beijing. With a comprehensive winning rate close to 50%, surpassing the average winning rate of the competition, this marks the best performance our university has achieved in recent years.

CUMTB attaches great importance to the cultivation of innovative talents and emphasizes the development of students' mathematical modeling thinking. The School of Science offers the "Mathematical Modeling" course and provides corresponding computer-based practical sessions. Faculty members continuously explore new teaching methods and guidance strategies to provide ongoing motivation for students.

The annually-held National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition was established in 1992. It is one of the first 19 competitions listed in the "Ranking of University Subject Competitions". The competition has become the largest fundamental subject competition in Chinese universities and the world's largest mathematical modeling competition.
