CUMTBer Excels in "Student Night" China Rock Bowl at ARMS 11

On October 22, during the 11thAsian Rock Mechanics Symposium (ARMS11), the inaugural "Student Night" China Rock Bowl was successfully held. Our univesity's team, CUMTBer, was led by Professor Zuo Jianping, Professor Zhu Jie, and Associate Professor Li Mingyao from the School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering. The team consisted of doctoral student Lei Bo, master's students Li Jiarun and Li Shaojin, and undergraduate student Pei Tianyi from the Class of 2019 in Engineering Mechanics. Based on the scores evaluated by the competition judges according to the rules, the CUMTBer team won the Second Prize in the inaugural "Student Night" China Rock Bowl Quiz Competition.
This event was jointly organized by the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM) and the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME), and hosted by the Youth Work Committee of CSRME. The aim of the activity was to strengthen the exchange among young students in the field of rock mechanics and engineering in Asia, guide the youth to focus on rock mechanics and engineering, broaden their knowledge, enrich and motivate themselves, enhance team spirit, and ignite their passion for learning and applying science. Following the announcement of the competition, it received positive responses from related universities. Six teams from Tongji University, Sun Yat-sen University, China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing, China University of Petroleum-Beijing, and Southwest Petroleum University participated in the competition. The entire competition was conducted in English and included mandatory questions and buzzer questions, covering fundamental knowledge in the field of rock mechanics and engineering. After intense on-site competitions, awards were given as follows: one First Prize, one Second Prize, one Third Prize, and three Excellence Awards. This competition, to be held annually, aims to become a significant platform for assessing the breadth of knowledge in rock mechanics and engineering among young students.
