Recently, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) announced the list of selected papers for the 6^thCAST Outstanding Scientific and Technological Paper Selection Program. Our university's School of Energy and Mining Engineering, including professors Wang Jiachen, Wei Weijie, and Zhang Jinwang, had their paper titled "Theoretical description of drawing body shape in an inclined seam with longwall top coal caving mining", published in the journal "International Journal of Coal Science & Technology" in 2020, successfully selected for this honor.

The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) launched the Outstanding Scientific and Technological Paper Selection Program in 2016 to encourage scientific researchers to explore scientific frontiers, discover and solve new scientific problems, open up new fields and directions, and publish more important original achievements in Chinese scientific journals. This initiative aims to promote the development of high-quality academic journals. In April of this year, CAST organized the 6^thedition of the Outstanding Scientific and Technological Paper Selection Program. Through recommendations by experts in various disciplines, initial evaluations, final reviews, and public announcements, a total of 95 papers were selected for inclusion in this prestigious list.

Professor Wang Jiachen's selected paper discusses the morphological characteristics of top coal caving under different working face inclination conditions. It identifies that the top coal caving bodies exhibit irregular shapes under specific working face layouts. The paper establishes a theoretical calculation model for the initial and normal stages of top coal caving in fully mechanized mining, which is crucial for determining the recovery rate of top coal in inclined coal seams, especially those with steep angles.
