President Liu Bo meets with representatives from the University of Newcastle, Australia, and AEMG Group

On the afternoon of March 10, President Liu Bo met with Mr. Yik Teo,ActingDirector of GlobalPartnerships, Professor Chris Scarlett, Associate Dean International of the School of Environmental and Life Sciences, University of Newcastle, along with Mr. Roger Li, Chairman of the Australian Education Management Group (AEMG), and members of the Global Affairs and Partnerships team from AEMG in Office Building No. 1.

President Liu warmly welcomed the delegation and briefly introduced the history, academic characteristics, research achievements, and development goals of the university. He expressed that the university has trained a large number of talents for the national traditional energy development and is actively conducting innovative research in coal-based low-carbon energy and emergency management and safety. He noted that this exchange marks an important beginning for inter-university cooperation between the two institutions and hoped that they, together with AEMG, could establish collaborations in the fields of energy, safety, and mineral processing to jointly promote the development of related disciplines.

Yik Teo indicated that the development history and academic structure of the University of Newcastle closely align with those of CUMTB, and that research in the new energy sector of both universities overlaps significantly. He expressed hopes for establishing a joint research center that would enhance both institutions’ student training and research development. Roger Li also stated that AEMG would continue to play a bridging role, actively promoting cooperation and exchanges between Chinese and Australian universities.

The atmosphere of the meeting was warm and harmonious as the three parties discussed pathways for substantive cooperation.

The University of Newcastle, established in 1965, is a public comprehensive university in Australia and a member of the Commonwealth Universities Association. It ranked 173rdin the 2024 QS World University Rankings, 4thamong 12 universities in New South Wales, and 10thamong 36 public universities in Australia.

Representatives from School of Energy and Mining Engineering, School of Emergency Management and Safety Engineering, School of Chemical & Environmental Engineering, and International Cooperation & Exchange Office participated in the meeting.
