On the morning of November 23, Professor Servet Karasu, Vice President, and Professor Hakan Kutoğlu, Vice President, from Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University in Turkey, visited our university. President Liu Bo met with the delegation.
Liu Bo first extended a warm welcome to Vice Presidents Servet Karasu and Hakan Kutoğlu and expressed sincere gratitude for their positive contributions to the establishment of the "China-Turkey Thick Coal Seam Mining Research Center." Liu Bo emphasized that our university has a solid foundation for cooperation with Turkey in the mining sector. Establishing in-depth cooperation with Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University is a significant step in responding to the "Belt and Road" international cooperation initiative. He hopes that the two universities will continue to rely on the jointly established research center to produce fruitful scientific research results in areas such as green and intelligent mining of thick coal seams and rock layer control. At the same time, he looks forward to deepening cooperation in areas such as exchange visits, talent cultivation, and international conferences, promoting the development of energy and technology in both countries.
Servet Karasu expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from the university. He has had multiple exchanges with the research team at China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing) and hopes to further deepen cooperation through the joint establishment of international joint laboratories, joint application for Sino-foreign cooperation projects, and the establishment of a faculty and student exchange mechanism, building on the successful cooperation to date.
Hakan Kutoğlu stated that mining engineering is a major discipline at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University. Zonguldak has abundant coal reserves and a strong demand for advanced mining technologies and equipment. China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing) has strong capabilities in mining engineering and related fields. He hopes that both sides can continue to broaden cooperation channels and jointly promote advancements in mining technology.
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University in Turkey signed a cooperation memorandum with our university in July 2023; in December 2023, the "China-Turkey Thick Coal Seam Mining Research Center" was jointly established. Located in Zonguldak Province, which is rich in hard coal reserves in Turkey, Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University was originally established in 1924 as a mining specialist school to exploit coal resources in the Black Sea Basin and is the first mining institution of higher learning in Turkey. The university was rebuilt in 1992 and named Zonguldak Karaelmas University (meaning Black Diamond University), and later named after the former Prime Minister of Turkey, Bülent Ecevit. The university specializes in coal, with mining engineering and civil engineering as its advantageous disciplines.
Gao Laiju, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Energy and Mining Engineering, Yang Shengli, Dean of the School, and Deng Xuejie, Deputy Director of the Department of Resource Science and Engineering, attended the meeting.
