In full adherence to the guiding principles of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the symposium on advancing the high-quality construction and development of the Xiong’an New Area — “striving to build a new-era innovation highland and a model for high-quality development” — and in strict accordance with the task arrangements set forth in the Opinions of the State Council on Several Policy Measures to Support the High-Standard and High-Quality Construction of the Xiong’an New Area, the Xiong’an Advanced Research Institute of China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing completed its registration in March 2026. This milestone marks a key strategic addition to the university’s efforts in serving major national strategies and deepening university-local collaborative innovation.
The institute is jointly established by CUMTB and the Industry, Information Technology, Science and Data Bureau of Xiong’an New Area, Hebei Province. It is the University’s first research institute in Xiong’an with independent legal entity status. Serving as a central platform for the University’s engagement in Xiong’an’s development, the institute will align with the New Area’s “Four Threes” innovation framework and the “5+6” industrial development plan set out in the Master Plan for Xiong’an New Area. Guided by its mission to foster deeper integration between science and technology and socio-economic development, and to support high-quality growth through innovation and talent cultivation, it will focus on key areas such as efficient use of energy and resources, Emergency Safety and Security, advanced intelligent manufacturing, next-generation IT, environmental governance, and AI applications. It will also support the full innovation cycle, including commercialization, technical services, and international collaboration.
The establishment of the institute strengthens CUMTB’s efforts to expand its academic and research resources and enhance its contribution to national strategies. In recent years, the University has deepened strategic cooperation with regions including the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, and Jiangxi, building a multi-regional research network. While consolidating its strengths in coal-related scientific innovation, the University is also advancing into key areas such as national strategic critical mineral resource development and urban underground space safety.
