The School of Mechanical Electronic & Information Engineering consists of 4 departments and one research institute: Department of Mechanical & Electronic Engineering, Department of Information & Electrical Engineering, Department of Computer Science & Technology, Department of Materials Science & Engineering and Information Engineering Institute. The School hosts 87 faculty and staff members, including 21 professors, 20 supervisors for doctoral candidates, 28 associate professors and 7 senior engineers. The number of young and middle-aged teachers with doctorates accounts for almost 80% of the total faculty. In June of 1998, Department of Mechanical Electronic & Information Engineering was established, and School of Mechanical Electronic & Information Engineering has been founded ever since June of 2002.
In the School of Mechanical Electronic & Information Engineering, currently there are 2 national key disciplines (Power Electronics & Power Transmission and Mechanical Design & Theory), 4 Post-doctoral research stations (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, and Information & Communication Engineering), 4 first-grade disciplines conferring Doctor Degrees (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information & Communication Engineering and Computer Science & Technology), 16 second-grade disciplines conferring Doctor Degrees (Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, Mechanical Design and Theory, Vehicle Engineering, Power Electronics and Power Transmission, Electrical Machinery and Electric Apparatus, Power System and Automation, High Voltage and Insulation Technology, Electrical Engineering Theory and New Technology, Communication and Information System, Signal and Information Processing, Control Theory and Control Engineering, Measurement Techniques and Automation Devices, Technology of Computer Application, Computer Architecture and Computer Software and Theory), 10 first-grade disciplines conferring Master Degrees (Mechanical Engineering, Instrument Science and Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Science and Technology, Information and Communication Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Technology and Software Engineering), and 7 specialties for undergraduates (Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Computer Science and Technology, Information Engineering and Industrial Design). Among these disciplines, Mechanical Engineering and Automation was rated as the state-level characteristic specialty, Electrical Engineering and Automation as the characteristic specialty of Beijing, and Electrical Engineering Laboratory as the experiment teaching demonstration center of Beijing.
For years, the School of Mechanical Electronic & Information Engineering has cultivated a large number of high-tech talents for our country in the field of Machinery, Automatic Control, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Communication, Computer and Materials. Such scientific research programs as National Programs for Science and Technology Development in the“10th Five-year” Period, the 863 Project, projects of National Nature Science Foundation of China, and the 973 Project have been accomplished in this School. And it has also won a lot of state-level and provincial-level Science and Technology Progress Awards.
The School of Mechanical Electronic & Information Engineering now boasts of nearly 1700 graduate and undergraduate students. Some of these students and student groups have successively won numbers of provincial-level awards. The students have also gained many honors in various scientific research competitions, art contests and PE activities. Every year, students are admitted to such key universities or institutes as Tsinghua University, Beijing University, Chinese Academy of Sciences and etc. The employment rate of graduates has kept rising year by year.
