On January 31st, Professor Louis Sousa, a Portuguese expert invited by the State Key Laboratory for GeoMechanics and Deep Underground Engineering at CUMTB was invited to attend the New Year Forum between Wen Jiabao, premier of the State Council, and foreign experts in China.

As a professor at the University of Porto in Portugal, Louis Sousa was former Vice Chairman of International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM) from 2003 to 2007. Since 2010, he has been invited by our university through the “High-level Overseas Experts Project” of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA), and mainly engaged in the research work of storing CO2 in Carboniferous strata of abandoned coal mines. Over the past few years, Professor Louis Sousa and his research team have cooperated with the State Key Laboratory for GeoMechanics and Deep Underground Engineering to carry out a series of effective researches and have made fruitful scientific research achievements.
