CUMTB Students Win Awards in National Underground Space Innovation Competition

Recently, the Fourth Underground Space Green Development Summit and the Award Ceremony for the National Underground Space Innovation Competition took place in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Two projects from School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering at China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing stood out in the Concept Design category. The project titled “Another World Inside the Cave: Chongqing Air-Raid Shelter Transformation and Expansion Plan to Data Center”, guided by Professors Yin Fei and Li Tao and the project titled “Vertical 'Mine' Wilderness, Energy Treasure Trove: Green Utilization and 'Zero Carbonization' Energy Extraction of Abandoned Mines” under the supervision of Professor Cao Ying were honored second-category achievements in concept design category.
The Professional Committee of Pipe Gallery and Underground Space of China Municipal Engineering Association has successfully organized three consecutive sessions of the Underground Space Innovation Competition from 2020 to 2022. The competition aims to share new concepts, technologies, and achievements in the green construction of underground spaces. It serves as a platform to facilitate mutual exchange among scholars, engineers, and professionals in the field of underground spaces across the nation. The goal is to boost enthusiasm for industry development and propel the sustained, healthy growth of China's underground space sector.
The honored works acknowledged during the conference, spanning “Conceptual Design of Underground Space”, “Outstanding Technological Achievements in Underground Space”, and “Exemplary Underground Space Projects”, have been curated into the “Selected Works Collection of the National Underground Space Innovation Competition (Fourth Session)”. This compilation, characterized by innovation and foresight, showcases advanced concepts and technologies for the green development of underground spaces. It serves as a valuable reference for the healthy development of China's underground space industry.
