From July 12thto 16th, the 14thInternational Mine Water Association (IMWA) Congress was held in Wales. The conference theme was "Mine Water Management for Future Generations".

According to the arrangement, the IMWA completed the election of its Executive Committee, selecting 1 President, 2 Vice Presidents, and 8 members of Executive Council. Professor Wu Qiang at China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing, Director of the National Coal Mine Water Hazard Prevention Engineering Technology Research Center, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was re-elected as Vice President of IMWA. He is the first Asian to be elected consecutively to this position since the organization's inception. Additionally, Dr. Wang Changshen from China University of Mining and Technology was elected as an alternate member of the Executive Council. The simultaneous reelection of these two Chinese scholars to the IMWA Executive Council demonstrates global recognition of China's contributions in mine water management.

The International Mine Water Association (IMWA) was established in Granada, Spain, in 1979 as an international organization dedicated to multidisciplinary research on the mine water. It typically hosts an international congress every three years. The 14thInternational Mine Water Congress was originally scheduled for 2020 but was postponed to this year due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The conference venue was relocated from New Zealand to Wales. Notably, this conference was entirely conducted online, marking the first time in IMWA's history that it was held entirely virtually.
