On December 13th, the 2ndBeijing Social Practice and Science and Technology Competition for College Students on Energy Conservation, Water Conservation and Carbon Emission Reduction concluded at Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Our university students achieved outstanding results, winning 1 special prize, 3 first prizes, 4 second prizes, 6 third prizes, and 1 honorable mention from the Beijing Municipal Government.

Organized by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, with joint sponsorship from the Teaching Guidance Committees of Higher Education Institutions in Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering, Energy and Power Engineering, and Architecture, Environment and Energy Application Engineering under the Ministry of Education, this competition is a significant event involving Beijing's higher education institutions. Guided by principles of innovation leadership, integration of science and education, student-centeredness, and social participation, the competition focuses on energy conservation, emissions reduction, water conservation, and green development, aiming to enhance students' awareness of energy conservation, water conservation, and low-carbon environmental protection. It also cultivates students' spirit of scientific and technological innovation, practical abilities, and scientific literacy, contributing to accelerating ecological civilization reforms and building a beautiful China with the wisdom and strength of college students.

Despite challenges caused by the pandemic affecting students' limited time for experiments or creative work on campus in the first half of the year, our students and guiding teachers relied on previously initiated college student innovation experiment programs, diligently summarized and wrote competition guides, achieving excellent results. This competition not only cultivates students' innovation capabilities but also enhances their spirit of teamwork, which is of great significance for deepening engineering education reforms and promoting the development of“first-class undergraduate programs”.
