President Liu Bo Meets with Delegation Led by President of Montanuniversität Leoben

On the morning of November 4, Professor Peter Moser, President of Montanuniversität Leoben in Austria, visited our university with Professor Thomas Prohaska, Vice President for International Affairs, Professor David Misch, Current Dean of the Faculty of Energy and Geo-Science, Professor Reinhard F. Sachsenhofer, Former Dean of the Faculty of Energy and Geo-Science, and Ms. Jie Zhou, China Affairs Officer at the International Office. President Liu Bo met with the delegation and, on behalf of the university, signed an agreement to jointly establish an International Joint Laboratory for New Energy Science and Technology. Heads from the School of Energy and Mining Engineering, School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering, School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Graduate School, Research Institute, and International Office attended the meeting.

During the talks, Liu Bo reviewed the fruitful achievements in joint undergraduate and graduate student training between the two universities over the past 12 years and highly praised the significance of the Sino-Austrian-German tripartite joint master's program in Advanced Mineral Resources Development (AMRD) in cultivating professionals for global energy sustainability. Liu Bo stated that the two universities have established deep mutual trust and friendship through long-term cooperation, and both share the mission of cultivating talents and promoting technological changes in new energy technologies under the "dual carbon" goals. The signing of the agreement on the International Joint Laboratory for New Energy Science and Technology will surely open a new chapter in bilateral cooperation. Liu Bo mentioned that this year marks the 10thanniversary of the AMRD program, and many of our program's alumni, who are now studying or working at renowned universities and energy companies worldwide, have sent congratulatory videos, hoping that the two universities can further expand cooperation in the field of scientific research based on the solid foundation of joint talent training.

Professor Peter Moser expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and noted that he had visited our university multiple times during his tenure as Vice President of Montanuniversität Leoben. He led the delegation this time with the hope of deepening cooperation through jointly establishing an international joint laboratory and jointly applying for Sino-foreign cooperative education projects, building on the successful past collaboration. He mentioned that Montanuniversität Leoben will establish a special scholarship in addition to the existing Erasmus scholarship to support more students from our university to study at their university and provide weekly online English tutoring for program students.

After the talks, Vice President Thomas Prohaska gave a presentation in Classroom 108 of the teaching building, introducing the majors and study and living conditions at Montanuniversität Leoben. The lecture was warmly welcomed by the students present.

Montanuniversität Leoben signed a memorandum of cooperation with our university in March 2012. In 2014, the university, together with our university and the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg in Germany, launched the tripartite joint master's program in Advanced Mineral Resources Development (AMRD). Established in 1840, Montanuniversität Leoben is a public university located in Leoben, the industrial hub of the Austrian state of Styria and the second-largest city after the state capital Graz. Leoben has a long-standing tradition of mining and metallurgical technology expertise. Montanuniversität Leoben is also one of the three technical universities in the Austrian TU Network (TU Austria), alongside the Vienna University of Technology and Graz University of Technology.
