University Party Secretary Han Shangfeng Leads Delegation to Visit Partner Universities in Spain and Portugal

Recently, University Party Secretary Han Shangfeng led a delegation to visit the Madrid campus of Universidad de San Luis in Spain, the University of Zaragoza in Spain, and the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Lisbon, Portugal. Relevant officials from the Graduate School, Student Affairs Office, International Office, and the School of Energy and MiningEngineering accompanied the delegation.

At the Madrid campus of Universidad de San Luis, Han Shangfeng and his delegation met with the campus president, William Johnson, and vice presidents Victoria Villarreal, Francisco Serrano, and Laurie Mazzuca. They listened to an introduction by President Johnson on the university's history, teaching, enrollment situation, and current development status, and then introduced the history and recent teaching and research developments of our university. Both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on topics such as future "1+1+1" master's programs, short-term student exchange programs, and academic cooperation among faculty, reaching multiple consensuses. After the talks, Han Shangfeng led the delegation to visit teaching laboratories, the nursing school's simulation wards, the science and art visualization lab, student research activity rooms, the student extracurricular activity center, the library, and the degree award ceremony hall. Both sides exchanged ideas and experiences on talent cultivation and student affairs between China and Spain. Han Shangfeng stated that cultural exchanges should be strengthened to create a growth environment that emphasizes academics and is beneficial to the development of artistic appreciation and employment competence for Chinese and Spanish students.

At the University of Zaragoza, Han Shangfeng and his delegation listened to an introduction by Francisco Beltrán, the vice rector for internationalization and cooperation, on the university's history, talent cultivation, technological innovation, and other aspects, and then introduced the research development and international cooperation projects of our university in recent years. Both sides signed a cooperation memorandum and an exchange student agreement, further deepening their strategic partnership. Han Shangfeng expressed the hope that the two universities can carry out research cooperation on key issues such as global energy technology, environmental protection, and climate change, promote multidisciplinary integration, jointly build high-level international joint laboratories, and cultivate high-quality innovative talents with an international perspective. Han Shangfeng and his delegation also visited the university's Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Science, School of Engineering and Architecture, Aragón Institute for Energy and Resource Efficiency and its Chemical Laboratory, and held discussions with relevant officials on further deepening joint talent cultivation across undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, as well as the construction of joint laboratories, jointly planning specific paths and solutions for future cooperation.

At the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, Portugal, Han Shangfeng stated that the National Education Conference held in China in this September outlined a beautiful blueprint for building an education powerhouse, providing a good opportunity for deepening Sino-foreign academic exchanges and educational research cooperation. This visit also coincides with the 45thanniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Portugal. He hoped that the two universities can seize the development opportunity, strengthen cooperation in talent cultivation on the basis of existing cooperation, actively carry out research cooperation in the energy field, and make more contributions to Sino-Portuguese friendship and the green, low-carbon, and sustainable development of energy. Both sides reviewed the cooperation achievements since the signing of the agreement and conducted in-depth discussions on international academic exchanges and high-level interdisciplinary scientific research, reaching a series of consensuses. Han Shangfeng and his delegation also visited the laboratory of the School of Energy and the geological museum of the university. Both sides introduced their respective research on mining engineering and sustainable environmental development and exchanged intentions for future research cooperation.
