On October 23, Professor Derek Elsworth, a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, was invited to deliver an academic lecture to our university's faculty and students. The lecture was hosted by Zhou Hongwei, Dean of the Lixing College.

Professor Derek Elsworth presented a lecture titled "Controlling Factors of Induced Seismicity and Their Influence on Permeability Evolution". Using humorous language and multiple models, he vividly explained the mechanism of hydraulic fracturing in reservoir alteration and permeability evolution in the context of green energy transition and low carbon energy development. He also revealed the patterns of change between earthquake induction and permeability evolution.

Zhou Hongwei extended a warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to Professor Derek Elsworth and introduced Professor Elsworth's academic achievements and significant accomplishments to the audience in both Chinese and English. During the lecture, Zhou Hongwei and Professor Elsworth engaged in discussions on related academic topics and interpreted students' questions of interest in bilingual Chinese and English.

Zhao Yixin, Dean of Academy of the Science and Technology, encouraged the students present to solidify their theoretical foundation, broaden their international perspective, and reasonably plan their personal development paths.

More than 280 participants attended the lecture, including Gao Laiju, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Energy and Mining Engineering, Wang Zhiqiang, Deputy Dean of the School of Energy and Mining Engineering, some young faculty representatives from Lixing College, as well as undergraduate and graduate students from various grades.
