On September 17, Professor Shao Longyi and Professor Lu Jing's team from our university, with Dr. Zhang Peixin as the lead author, won the prestigious 2024 Dal Swaine Award at the 40thannual meeting of The Society for Organic Petrology (TSOP) held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, for their paper titled "End-Permian terrestrial ecosystem collapse in North China: Evidence from palynology and geochemistry". This is a high recognition of the outstanding contributions made by our university's faculty and students in the fields of coal geochemistry and environmental geochemistry. It is reported that this is the second time our university and the third time for China to receive this award, with previous winners mainly coming from countries such as the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Japan, Germany, and Switzerland.

Founded in the United States in 1984, The Society for Organic Petrology is a prominent international academic organization in the fields of organic petrology and coal geology. It aims to promote research, education, and collaboration in coal geology, organic petrology, kerogen petrology, and organic geochemistry. Its members are spread across the globe, including over 30 countries such as the United States, Australia, China, Denmark, Poland, Germany, and Spain. The Dal Swaine Award, established in honor of the renowned international scholar and Australian energy geologist Dal Swaine, recognizes the best paper that makes significant contributions to the fields of coal and environmental geochemistry. This award is granted annually to only one research achievement worldwide, and Professor Dai Shifeng from our university's College of Geoscience and Surveying Engineering has previously received this honor.

Our university has always attached great importance to the cultivation and development of international teams, actively building international exchange platforms for faculty members, and encouraging and supporting research teams to participate in international academic competition and cooperation. This award not only reflects the personal honor of our faculty members but also demonstrates the research strength and talent cultivation achievements of our university. In the future, our university will continue to adhere to the development concept of "innovation, coordination, openness, and sharing", strengthen exchanges and cooperation with international peers, continuously improve research capabilities and innovation abilities, and make greater contributions to energy development in China and globally.
