From June 14 to 15, two thematic seminars and exchange sessions on emergency technologies and equipment were held at the university’s Fuzhongyuan Lecture Hall. The events were part of two training programmes jointly hosted by the International Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Emergency Management and China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing (CUMTB): the Advanced Workshop for Senior Officials from Belt and Road Countries on Flood Prevention, Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management, and the Sri Lanka Disaster Management Workshop. More than 60 participants attended the sessions. The attendees included government officials, representatives from universities and research institutions, and enterprise professionals from the Republic of the Congo, Mauritania, Guinea, Togo, Laos and Sri Lanka. Han Shangfeng, Chair of the University Council, and Wang Kai, Vice President, attended and delivered speeches at the two seminars respectively. Mi Jianying, Deputy Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Emergency Management, addressed the events and presented a keynote report. The seminars were presided over by Wu Jiansong, Dean of the School of Emergency Management and Safety Engineering.
On behalf of the university, Han Shangfeng welcomed all domestic and overseas participants and introduced CUMTB’s development journey, disciplinary strengths and research platforms. He noted that the university has long focused on energy security, workplace safety, disaster prevention and control, as well as emergency management. It has grown into a key national institution fostering talent, driving technological innovation and delivering public services for safety and emergency response. He expressed his expectation that the training programs would become a platform for lasting international cooperation in emergency management. Moving forward, the university will build on short-term technical exchanges to advance in-depth, long-term collaboration in teaching, research and talent development, while exploring new models for cross-border coordinated disaster risk governance with Belt and Road countries.
During the sessions, Mi Jianying briefed participants on the overall agenda and systematically introduced the background, definition and classification of emergency equipment applied in China’s emergency response system. Delegates from various countries shared local practices and technological advances in disaster management, prevention and relief, and discussed existing technical difficulties as well as their practical demands for emergency technologies and equipment. Industry representatives from Xinxing Jihua Group, Changsha Divo Machinery Technology, Duotaike Intelligent Equipment and other enterprises presented their R&D progress and on-site applications of emergency relief equipment. Meanwhile, CUMTB faculty representatives overviewed the development of the university’s safety science and engineering discipline, specified admission and training requirements for international students and visiting scholars, and shared the university’s latest research on power grid disaster prevention and mitigation.
Aligned with China’s national strategy of addressing all types of disasters and building a full-scale emergency response system, the seminars strive to bring China’s advanced experience, innovative technologies and smart equipment in disaster prevention, mitigation and emergency management to the world, and deliver both national wisdom and CUMTB’s academic expertise to boost disaster reduction capabilities across Belt and Road countries.
Relevant staff from the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and the School of Emergency Management and Safety Engineering, together with teachers and students of the university, attended the seminars.
