From our correspondent — Recently, with the successful pouring of the last batch of concrete for the basement roof slab, the student apartment construction project on the Shahe Campus of China University of Mining and Technology, Beijing has completed the structural construction to ±0.00 elevation as scheduled, fulfilling this critical milestone of the project. This landmark achievement means the project has concluded the underground foundation phase and fully entered the superstructure construction stage, laying a solid foundation for high-quality, efficient and on-time project delivery.

The Shahe Campus Student Apartment Project is a key livelihood project through which the University actively responds to the national strategy of “expanding and improving undergraduate education”, improves campus supporting facilities and optimizes student accommodation conditions. Supported by national “two priorities” funding, the project carries great significance for expanding the University’s campus space, easing the shortage of student housing, and supporting talent cultivation and high-quality development of the University.

The construction team has overcome a series of challenges including limited construction space, complex geological conditions, high groundwater levels, frequent rainfall in the rainy season, and proximity to existing campus buildings. Rigorous controls were implemented for key procedures such as underground structure construction, foundation pit support, waterproofing and anti-seepage treatment, and concrete pouring.

To further enhance the structural safety and resilience of the building, the project adopts the innovative seismic isolation bearing technology. The innovative design of “flexible seismic isolation and energy dissipation for vibration reduction” builds a highly resilient seismic barrier for the building. Intelligent construction technologies including BIM and VR were applied to optimize construction schemes. The on-schedule completion of the ±0.00 milestone marks a phased achievement of the project and signals the full-speed advancement of subsequent construction works.
